MEET THE TEAM
Since opening in 2018, Coastal Counseling & Consulting has helped countless people get through stressful challenges by questioning negative thoughts, building self-confidence, and understanding the source of specific behaviors and emotional patterns.
We look forward to helping you through whatever life has thrown at you!
Sarah Lewis, LPC
Owner
I’ve been a therapist for 14 years and have had the privilege of working with a wide variety of people. Over the years, I’ve found the deepest fulfillment in working with women who feel stretched thin by the many roles they’re expected to fill—wife, daughter, mother, employee, homemaker, chauffeur, crisis responder, best friend—the list goes on. Let me help you take care of yourself in the midst of it all. Together, we can build your confidence, rediscover your strength, and create space for the version of you that often gets left behind.

If you're struggling with anxiety, depression, overwhelm, trauma, grief, or low self-esteem, please reach out. I'm here to help you tap into the resilience that already lives inside you. You can do this!

In my free time, you'll often find me with a book in hand, traveling, exploring the outdoors with my two daughters, or spending quiet moments in reflection and faith. These pieces of my life keep me grounded—and remind me daily of the value of slowing down and staying connected to what matters most.

Sarah is a Board-Approved Supervisor in Virginia, providing clinical supervision to residents pursuing licensure with a focus on professional development, ethical practice, and client-centered care. Please reach out if you're seeking supervision or guidance on your licensure journey.

Ashlee Mergler
Intern
I'm no stranger to mental health struggles myself. After spending over 10 years in the corporate world, I reached a point where I needed extra support and through my own experience in the counseling room, I discovered a true passion for helping others find the same healing and growth I did. I understand the weight of balancing responsibilities, questioning who you are, and feeling stuck in patterns that are hard to break.

My approach to therapy is collaborative, supportive, and grounded in authenticity. I'm passionate about working with clients who are navigating new chapters, overcoming burnout, rebuilding confidence, healing from addiction, and finding a renewed sense of purpose. As an intern, I bring a fresh perspective, real-world experience, and deep presence to every session because I know firsthand how powerful it is to feel truly seen, heard, and supported.

When I’m not in the office, I find joy in spending time on the water with family, getting my hands messy on the pottery wheel, growing my ever-evolving plant collection, and turning up the music any chance I get. These simple pleasures remind me of the beauty in slowing down, creating, and staying connected.
Erica Arizmendi
Resident in Counseling
I have a deep passion for supporting individuals on their mental health journey. I work with children, teenagers, and adults, offering a safe and supportive space where clients feel seen, heard, and empowered to grow.

As a lifelong resident of the Eastern Shore, I bring a strong connection to this community and a deep understanding of its unique values and needs. I hold a Master’s Degree in Education as well as a Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling. Before becoming a counselor, I spent over seven years in education, including five years in an inclusive classroom, where I worked with students from diverse backgrounds and supported their emotional and behavioral development.

My transition into counseling was a natural one, built on a foundation of compassion, empathy, and a desire to walk alongside individuals as they navigate life’s challenges. I’ve completed over 700 hours of direct client work and draw from approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Person-Centered Therapy, and Play Therapy to help clients develop insight, build healthier thought patterns, and make meaningful changes.

Whether I’m working with a young child processing big emotions, a teenager facing identity or academic stress, or an adult seeking clarity and healing, I tailor my approach to meet each person where they are. I’m honored to support individuals on their path to wellness and personal growth—and I’m here to help you take that first step with confidence.
